2020 NFL Draft grades for all 32 teams (2024)

Bill Belichick is so bored with the rest of the NFL, he decided to let his dog make the Patriots first pick sans Tom Brady.

Kliff Kingsbury flexed on other coaches from his palatial estate.

Commissioner Roger Goodell clearly has a very comfortable chair in his man cave.

The 2020 NFL Draft was like no other.

Which teams fared the best over the past three days? Here are my draft grades:

AFC WEST

L.A. Chargers

Grade: B

Draft picks: (6) Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon; (23) Kenneth Murray, LB, Oklahoma; (112) Joshua Kelley, RB, UCLA; (151) Joe Reed, WR, Virginia; (186) Alohi Gilman, S, Notre Dame; (220) K.J. Hill, WR, Ohio State.

Notable undrafted free agents: None.

The lowdown: They needed a left tackle so Bryan Bulaga could slide over to right tackle (his natural position) and depth for the interior. Sam Tevi is a liability. Murray will prove worthy of the draft capital spent and the wide receivers should have impact year one.

Denver

Grade: A-

Draft picks: (15) Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama; (46) KJ Hamler, WR, Penn State; (77) Michael Ojemudia, CB, Iowa; (83) Lloyd Cushenberry III, C, LSU; (95) McTelvin Agim, DT, Arkansas; (118) Albert Okwuegbunam, TE, Missouri; (178) Justin Strnad, LB, Wake Forest; (181) Netane Muti, G, Fresno State; (252) Tyrie Cleveland, WR, Florida; (254) Derrek Tuszka, DE, North Dakota State.

Notable undrafted free agents: LeVante Bellamy, RB, Western Michigan; Essang Bassey, CB, Wake Forest.

The lowdown: Second-year quarterback Drew Lock officially has no excuses.

Kansas City

Grade: C+

Draft picks: (32) Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB, LSU; (63) Willie Gay Jr., LB, Mississippi State; (96) Lucas Niang, T, TCU; (138) L’Jarius Sneed, S, Louisiana Tech; (177) Michael Danna, DE, Michigan; (237) Bopete Keyes, CB, Tulane.

Notable undrafted free agents: Yasir Durant, OL, Missouri; Daryl Williams, OL, Mississippi State; Kalija Lipscomb, WR, Vanderbilt; Lavert Hill, CB, Michigan; Javaris Davis, CB, Auburn.

The lowdown: I almost prefer the undrafted haul to their drafted players. Yeah, they reached for Edwards-Helaire, but they can afford to. There’s some legit character concerns with the talented Gay (Chiefs don’t seem to care about those).

Las Vegas

Grade: B

Draft picks: (12) Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama; (19) Damon Arnette, CB, Ohio State; (80) Lynn Bowden Jr., WR, Kentucky; (81) Bryan Edwards, WR, South Carolina; (100) Tanner Muse, S, Clemson; (109) John Simpson, G, Clemson; (139) Amik Robertson, CB, Louisiana Tech.

Notable undrafted free agents: Madre Harper, CB, Southern Illinois.

The lowdown: I prefer the Robertson pick over the Arnette pick. The receiver choices were inspired. Drafting a potential special teams ace (Muse) in the third round breaks one of my draft rules: the first two days are for drafting starters.

AFC EAST

Buffalo

Grade: B

Draft picks: (54) A.J. Epenesa, DE, Iowa; (86) Zack Moss, RB, Utah; (128) Gabriel Davis, WR, UCF; (167) Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia; (188) Tyler Bass, K, Georgia Southern; (207) Isaiah Hodgins, WR, Oregon State; (239) Dane Jackson, CB, Pittsburgh.

Notable undrafted free agents: Trey Adams, OT, Washington

The lowdown: Their first-rounder landed them a true No. 1 wide receiver (Stefon Diggs). Epenesa and Moss were great values on day two.

Miami

Grade: A

Draft picks: (5) Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama; (18) Austin Jackson, T, USC; (30) Noah Igbinoghene, CB, Auburn; (39) Robert Hunt, T, Louisiana; (56) Raekwon Davis, DT, Alabama; (70) Brandon Jones, S, Texas; (111) Solomon Kindley, G, Georgia; (154) Jason Strowbridge, DE, North Carolina; (164) Curtis Weaver, DE, Boise State; (185) Blake Ferguson, C, LSU; (246) Malcolm Perry, WR, Navy.

Notable undrafted free agents: Benito Jones, DT, Mississippi.

The lowdown: Big upgrades everywhere (which isn’t saying too much). Still, they could have screwed this up and they didn’t.

New England

Grade: B

Draft picks: (37) Kyle Dugger, S, Lenoir-Rhyne; (60) Josh Uche, LB, Michigan; (87) Anfernee Jennings, LB, Alabama; (91) Devin Asiasi, TE, UCLA; (101) Dalton Keene, TE, Virginia Tech; (159) Justin Rohrwasser, K, Marshall; (182) Mike Onwenu, G, Michigan; (195) Justin Herron, G, Wake Forest; (204) Cassh Maluia, LB, Wyoming; (230) Dustin Woodard, C, Memphis.

Notable undrafted free agents: Myles Bryant, CB, Washington; Kyahva Tezino, LB, San Diego State; Nick Coe, Edge, Auburn; J.J. Taylor, RB, Arizona; Brian Lewerke, QB, Michigan State; Trevon Hill, DE, Miami.

The lowdown: I dig the versatility of Belichick’s (and his dog) first three picks on defense, but they didn’t really add any significant weapons for Jarrett Stidham.

N.Y. Jets

Grade: A-

Draft picks: (11) Mekhi Becton, T, Louisville; (59) Denzel Mims, WR, Baylor; (68) Ashtyn Davis, S, California; (79) Jabari Zuniga, DE, Florida; (120) La’Mical Perine, RB, Florida; (125) James Morgan, QB, Florida International; (129) Cameron Clark, G, Charlotte; (158) Bryce Hall, CB, Virginia; (191) Braden Mann, P, Texas A&M.

Notable undrafted free agents: Lamar Jackson, CB, Nebraska; Javelin Guidry, CB, Utah; Jared Hilbers, OL, Washington; Shyheim Carter, S, Alabama.

The lowdown: Both quarterback Sam Darnold and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams will be pleased.

AFC NORTH

Baltimore

Grade: A+

Draft picks: (28) Patrick Queen, LB, LSU; (55) J.K. Dobbins, RB, Ohio State; (71) Justin Madubuike, DT, Texas A&M;(92) Devin Duvernay, WR, Texas; (98) Malik Harrison, LB, Ohio State; (106) Tyre Phillips, G, Mississippi State; (143) Ben Bredeson, G, Michigan; (170) Broderick Washington Jr., DT, Texas Tech; (201) James Proche, WR, Southern Methodist; (219) Geno Stone, S, Iowa.

Notable undrafted free agents: Tyler Huntley, QB, Utah; Jacob Breeland, TE, Oregon.

The lowdown: No one does it better than the Ravens. Upgrading the linebacker corps? Check. A stud running back to replace aging Mark Ingram? Check. Defensive and offensive line depth? Check. Better weapons at receiver for MVP Lamar Jackson? Check.

Cincinnati

Grade: A

Draft picks: (1) Joe Burrow, QB, LSU; (33) Tee Higgins, WR, Clemson; (65) Logan Wilson, LB, Wyoming; (107) Akeem Davis-Gaither, LB, Appalachian State; (147) Khalid Kareem, DE, Notre Dame; (180) Hakeem Adeniji, G, Kansas; (215). Markus Bailey, LB, Purdue.

Notable undrafted free agents: None.

The lowdown: I’d be shocked if all seven of these players don’t start at some point in their careers.

Cleveland

Grade: A

Draft picks: (10) Jedrick Wills Jr., T, Alabama; (44) Grant Delpit, S, LSU; (88) Jordan Elliott, DT, Missouri; (97) Jacob Phillips, LB, LSU; (115) Harrison Bryant, TE, Florida Atlantic; (160) Nick Harris, C, Washington; (187) Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR, Michigan.

Notable undrafted free agents: Kevin Davidson, QB, Princeton; A.J. Green, CB, Oklahoma State; Brian Herrien, RB, Georgia; Alex Taylor, OT, South Carolina State.

The lowdown: Kudos to GM Andrew Berry in his first effort. He landed two first-rounders if the 2018 version of Delpit finds his way to the field.

Pittsburgh

Grade: B

Draft picks: (49) Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame; (102) Alex Highsmith, LB, Charlotte; (124) Anthony McFarland Jr., RB, Maryland; (135) Kevin Dotson, G, Louisiana; (198) Antoine Brooks Jr., S, Maryland; (232) Carlos Davis, DT, Nebraska.

Notable undrafted free agents: Trajan Bandy, CB, Miami

The lowdown: The sneaky good pick in this group is Dotson. Both of the Steelers’ starting guards are over thirty.

AFC SOUTH

Houston

Grade: C+

Draft picks: (40) Ross Blacklock, DT, TCU; (90) Jonathan Greenard, LB, Florida; (126) Charlie Heck, T, North Carolina; (141) John Reid, CB, Penn State; (171) Isaiah Coulter, WR, Rhode Island.

Notable undrafted free agents: None.

The lowdown: The Blacklock pick is the saving grace of this collection.

Indianapolis

Grade: A-

Draft picks: (34) Michael Pittman Jr., WR, USC; (41) Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin; (85) Julian Blackmon, S, Utah; (122) Jacob Eason, QB, Washington; (149) Danny Pinter, G, Ball State; (193) Robert Windsor, DT, Penn State; (211) Isaiah Rodgers, CB, Massachusetts; (212) Dezmon Patmon, WR, Washington State; (213) Jordan Glasgow, LB, Michigan.

Notable undrafted free agents: Rodrigo Blankenship, K, Georgia; Kendall Coleman, Edge, Syracuse.

The lowdown: Adding All-Pro defensive lineman DeForest Buckner (he cost the Colts the No. 13 overall pick) to this group pushes it up a letter grade.

Jacksonville

Grade: A-

Draft picks: (9) CJ Henderson, CB, Florida; (20) K’Lavon Chaisson, LB, LSU; (42) Laviska Shenault Jr., WR, Colorado; (73) Davon Hamilton, DT, Ohio State; (116) Ben Bartch, T, St. John’s (MN); (137) Josiah Scott, CB, Michigan State; (140) Shaquille Quarterman, LB, Miami (FL); (157) Daniel Thomas, S, Auburn; (165) Collin Johnson, WR, Texas; (189) Jake Luton, QB, Oregon State; (206) Tyler Davis, TE, Georgia Tech; (223) Chris Claybrooks, CB, Memphis.

Notable undrafted free agents: J.R. Reed, S, Georgia; Luq Barcoo, S, San Diego State; James Robinson, RB, Illinois State.

The lowdown: The defense is sufficiently restocked and Shenault is one of my favorite players in the entire draft.

Tennessee

Grade: B-

Draft picks: (29) Isaiah Wilson, T, Georgia; (61) Kristian Fulton, CB, LSU; (93) Darrynton Evans, RB, Appalachian State; (174) Larrell Murchison, DT, N.C. State; (224) Cole McDonald, QB, Hawaii; (243) Chris Jackson, S, Marshall.

Notable undrafted free agents: None.

The lowdown: You could argue edge rusher was the Titans biggest need and they didn’t touch it. Evans is officially lightning to Derrick Henry’s thunder.

NFC WEST

Arizona

Grade: B+

Draft picks: (8) Isaiah Simmons, LB, Clemson; (72) Josh Jones, T, Houston; (114) Leki Fotu, DT, Utah; (131) Rashard Lawrence, DT, LSU; (202) Evan Weaver, LB, California; (222) Eno Benjamin, RB, Arizona State.

Notable undrafted free agents: None.

The lowdown: An upgrade in protection for Kyler Murray and an influx of talent on the defensive side of the ball works for me.

L.A. Rams

Grade: B

Draft picks: (52) Cam Akers, RB, Florida State; (57) Van Jefferson, WR, Florida; (84) Terrell Lewis, LB, Alabama; (104) Terrell Burgess, S, Utah; (136) Brycen Hopkins, TE, Purdue; (199) Jordan Fuller, S, Ohio State; (234) Clay Johnston, LB, Baylor; (248) Sam Sloman, K, Miami (OH); (250) Tremayne Anchrum, G, Clemson.

Notable undrafted free agents: Josh Love, QB, San Jose State.

The lowdown: There’s some good additions here, especially Akers, Jefferson and San Marcos’ Burgess. The fail is not addressing an increasingly mediocre and aging offensive line sooner.

San Francisco

Grade: B+

Draft picks: (14) Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina; (25) Brandon Aiyuk, WR, Arizona State; (153) Colton McKivitz, T, West Virginia; (190) Charlie Woerner, TE, Georgia; (217) Jauan Jennings, WR, Tennessee.

Notable undrafted free agents: JaMycal Hasty, RB, Baylor; DeMarkus Acy, CB, Missouri; Salvon Ahmed, RB, Washington.

The lowdown: It’s close to an “A” when you factor in the trade for All-Pro tackle Trent Williams. I still would have preferred using both No. 1’s to stockpile picks while also addressing cornerback and the interior offensive line.

Seattle

Grade: B

Draft picks: (27) Jordyn Brooks, LB, Texas Tech; (48) Darrell Taylor, DE, Tennessee; (69) Damien Lewis, G, LSU; (133) Colby Parkinson, TE, Stanford; (144) DeeJay Dallas, RB, Miami (FL); (148) Alton Robinson, DE, Syracuse; (214) Freddie Swain, WR, Florida; (251) Stephen Sullivan, TE, LSU.

Notable undrafted free agents: Anthony Gordon, QB, Washington State; Dominick Wood-Anderson, TE, Tennessee

The lowdown: All of these players fit the Seahawks more than they’d likely fit elsewhere. Another good effort by GM John Schneider.

NFC EAST

Dallas

Grade: A+

Draft picks: (17) CeeDee Lamb, WR, Oklahoma; (51) Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama; (82) Neville Gallimore, DT, Oklahoma; (123) Reggie Robinson II, CB, Tulsa; (146) Tyler Biadasz, C, Wisconsin; (179) Bradlee Anae, DE, Utah; (231) Ben DiNucci, QB, James Madison.

Notable undrafted free agents: Darius Anderson, RB, TCU; Francis Bernard, LB, Utah; Rico Dowdle, RB, South Carolina; Sean McKeon, TE, Michigan; Aaron Parker, WR, Rhode Island; Terence Steele, OT, Texas Tech.

The lowdown: Taking Lamb is an example of staying true to your draft board. The best organizations do this. Their first three selections all have first round talent. Biadasz could be one of the biggest thefts of the draft.

N.Y. Giants

Grade: B+

Draft picks: (4) Andrew Thomas, T, Georgia; (36) Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama; (99) Matt Peart, T, Connecticut; (110) Darnay Holmes, CB, UCLA; (150) Shane Lemieux, G, Oregon; (183) Cam Brown, LB, Penn State; (218) Carter Coughlin, DE, Minnesota; (238) T.J. Brunson, LB, South Carolina; (247) Chris Williamson, CB, Minnesota; (255) Tae Crowder, LB, Georgia.

Notable undrafted free agents: Javon Leake, RB, Maryland; Austin Mack, WR, Ohio State; Binjimen Victor, WR, Ohio State.

The lowdown: The main goal of this draft for GM Dave Gettleman was to fix the offensive line. Thomas, Peart and Lemieux will go a long ways in accomplishing it.

Philadelphia

Grade: B-

Draft picks: (21) Jalen Reagor, WR, TCU; (53) Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma; (103) Davion Taylor, LB, Colorado; (127) K’Von Wallace, S, Clemson; (145) Jack Driscoll, T, Auburn; (168) John Hightower, WR, Boise State; (196) Shaun Bradley, LB, Temple; (200) Quez Watkins, WR, Southern Miss; (210) Prince Tega Wanogho, T, Auburn; (233) Casey Toohill, DE, Stanford.

Notable undrafted free agents: Raequan Williams, DT, Michigan State; Michael Warren, RB, Cincinnati.

The lowdown: There’s a lot of good value sprinkled throughout (I’m rooting for Tega Wanogho), but Reagor was a legit reach when there were many talented receivers available.

Washington

Grade: B+

Draft picks: (2) Chase Young, DE, Ohio State; (66) Antonio Gibson, WR, Memphis; (108) Saahdiq Charles, T, LSU; (142) Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR, Liberty; (156) Keith Ismael, C, San Diego State; (162) Khaleke Hudson, LB, Michigan; (216) Kamren Curl, S, Arkansas; (229) James Smith-Williams, DE, N.C. State.

Notable undrafted free agents: Thaddeus Moss, TE, LSU; Steven Montez, QB, Colorado.

The lowdown: Drafting the best player in this draft (Young) helps mitigate any shortcomings (not addressing corner) in this group. Gibson and Gandy-Golden are both exciting upgrades on offense.

NFC NORTH

Chicago

Grade: C-

Draft picks: (43) Cole Kmet, TE, Notre Dame; (50) Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah; (155) Trevis Gipson, DE, Tulsa; (163) Kindle Vildor, CB, Georgia Southern; (173) Darnell Mooney, WR, Tulane; (226) Arlington Hambright, G, Colorado; (227) Lachavious Simmons, G, Tennessee State.

Notable undrafted free agents: None.

The lowdown: Drafting a tenth tight end means GM Ryan Pace is spit-balling. The Johnson pick was a great value, but they waited too long to address guard.

Detroit

Grade: B+

Draft picks: (3) Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State; (35) D’Andre Swift, RB, Georgia; (67) Julian Okwara, LB, Notre Dame; (75) Jonah Jackson, G, Ohio State; (121) Logan Stenberg, G, Kentucky; (166) Quintez Cephus, WR, Wisconsin; (172) Jason Huntley, RB, New Mexico State; (197) John Penisini, DT, Utah; (235) Jashon Cornell, DT, Ohio State.

Notable undrafted free agents: Hunter Bryant, TE, Washington; Jalen Elliott, S, Notre Dame

The lowdown: Okudah is special and Swift will balance this offense. The added a significant amount of toughness to the offensive and defensive lines.

Green Bay

Grade: F

Draft picks: (26) Jordan Love, QB, Utah State; (62) AJ Dillon, RB, Boston College; (94) Josiah Deguara, TE, Cincinnati; (175) Kamal Martin, LB, Minnesota; (192) Jon Runyan, G, Michigan; (208) Jake Hanson, C, Oregon; (209) Simon Stepaniak, G, Indiana; (236) Vernon Scott, S, TCU; (242) Jonathan Garvin, DE, Miami (FL).

Notable undrafted free agents: Stanford Samuels, CB, Florida State.

The lowdown: This isn’t an indictment of the Love pick. It’s an indictment of making six of your first seven picks offensive players who likely won’t even play in 2020. Also, not drafting a single wide receiver in the deepest class in a generation when you clearly need one.

Minnesota

Grade: A

Draft picks: (22) Justin Jefferson, WR, LSU; (31) Jeff Gladney, CB, TCU; (58) Ezra Cleveland, T, Boise State; (89) Cameron Dantzler, CB, Mississippi State; (117) D.J. Wonnum, LB, South Carolina; (130) James Lynch, DE, Baylor; (132) Troy Dye, LB, Oregon; (169) Harrison Hand, CB, Temple; (176) K.J. Osborn, WR, Miami (FL); (203) Blake Brandel, G, Oregon State; (205) Josh Metellus, S, Michigan; (225) Kenny Willekes, DE, Michigan State; (244) Nate Stanley, QB, Iowa; (249) Brian Cole II, S, Mississippi State; (253) Kyle Hinton, G, Washburn.

Notable undrafted free agents: Nevelle Clarke, CB, Central Florida; Quartney Davis, WR, Texas A&M; Myles Dorn, CB, North Carolina.

The lowdown: There’s certainly strength in numbers. The 15 selections set a mark for the most picks since the draft went to a seven-round format in 1994. Most importantly, a depleted secondary has been replenished.

NFC SOUTH

Atlanta

Grade: B-

Draft picks: (16) A.J. Terrell, CB, Clemson; (47) Marlon Davidson, DE, Auburn; (78) Matt Hennessy, C, Temple; (119) Mykal Walker, LB, Fresno State; (134) Jaylinn Hawkins, S, California; (228) Sterling Hofrichter, P, Syracuse.

Notable undrafted free agents: Jared Pinkney, TE, Vanderbilt.

The lowdown: Failing to trade up for Jeff Okudah or C.J. Henderson and settling for Terrell over edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson hurts the grade. Hennessey is a future replacement for 34-year-old stud center Alex Mack.

Carolina

Grade: B

Draft picks: (7) Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn; (38) Yetur Gross-Matos, DE, Penn State; (64) Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois; (113) Troy Pride Jr., CB, Notre Dame; (152) Kenny Robinson Jr., S, West Virginia; (184) Bravvion Roy, DT, Baylor; (221) Stantley Thomas-Oliver III, CB, Florida International.

Notable undrafted free agents: Jordan Mack, LB, Virginia.

The lowdown: Love the laser-like focus on improving the defense (their first three picks are starters). Needed to address the interior offensive line after trading away Trai Turner.

New Orleans

Grade: B-

Draft picks: (24) Cesar Ruiz, C, Michigan; (74) Zack Baun, LB, Wisconsin; (105) Adam Trautman, TE, Dayton; (240) Tommy Stevens, QB, Mississippi State.

Notable undrafted free agents: Calvin Throckmorton, OL, Oregon; Malcolm Roach, DT, Texas; Tony Jones Jr., RB, Notre Dame; Joe Bachie, LB, Michigan State; Juwan Johnson, WR, Oregon.

The lowdown: There’s not a lot of holes on this roster so it’s hard to be too critical. The first three players they drafted are very talented, but I’m surprised they didn’t dip their toes in the receiver pool despite signing Emmanuel Sanders in free agency.

Tampa Bay

Grade: B+

Draft picks: (13) Tristan Wirfs, T, Iowa; (45) Antoine Winfield Jr., S, Minnesota; (76) Ke’Shawn Vaughn, RB, Vanderbilt; (161) Tyler Johnson, WR, Minnesota; (194) Khalil Davis, DT, Nebraska; (241) Chapelle Russell, LB, Temple; (245) Raymond Calais, RB, Louisiana.

Notable undrafted free agents: Reid Sinnett, QB, San Diego; Zach Shackelford, OL, Texas.

The lowdown: Drafting my top tackle and safety will guarantee you a good grade. Tom Brady will appreciate the Vaughn and Johnson picks.
