Mets Daily Prospect Report, 6/27/24: Tong strikes out eleven, Baty hits pair of dongs (2024)

Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (48-28)

SYRACUSE 7, BUFFALO 4 (BOX)

The Mets’ strongest affiliate in terms of win-loss record picked up a win over the city that briefly served as the franchise’s Triple-A home, as Mike Vasil put up exactly a quality start with five strikeouts and no walks—one of his best outings of the year. Luisangel Acuña stayed hot with a pair of hits, but Brett Baty was the star of the show at the plate with three hits, two of which were home runs. And Max Kranick’s work out of the bullpen continues to be pretty decent, which might make him an appealing call-up option for the Mets as they enter an eight-game stretch without any off days—and without the suspended Edwin Díaz.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (35-33)

NO GAME: POSTPONED BY RAIN

High-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (34-37)

ABERDEEN 3, BROOKLYN 1 (BOX)

The Cyclones’ offense didn’t do much, but Jonah Tong sure did some work on the mound. The 21-year-old put up his best start since his promotion to Brooklyn as he reacked up eleven strikeouts, walked just one, and gave up only one run in six innings of work. While there was an adjustment period upon his arrival in High-A, those strikeout and walk numbers are reminiscent of what he did in St. Lucie earlier in the year.

Single-A: St. Lucie Mets (22-49)

PALM BEACH 6, ST. LUCIE 4 (BOX)

St. Lucie scored a run in the top of the first and another in the top of the second, but they surrendered the next six runs—all from the bottom of the second through the bottom of the fourth. St. Lucie responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth but didn’t score again the rest of the way in yet another loss.

Rookie: FCL Mets (16-21)

FCL MARLINS 5, FCL METS 3 (BOX)

Set to turn 18 years old next week, Jeremy Rodriguez picked up a pair of hits, scored a run, and drove in a run. That was the highlight of the complex league night, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
